How SchoolBrief works

Set it up once in 5 minutes. Never miss a school event again.

1

Sign up and get your address

When you sign up, we give you a unique forwarding address that looks like:

xt2ywzev@in.schoolbrief.uk

This is your personal address — emails sent here get summarised for you.

2

Set up email forwarding

Set up an automatic rule so school emails forward to SchoolBrief. Choose your email provider:

📧 Gmail

  1. Open Gmail → click the cog icon → See all settings
  2. Click the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab
  3. Click Create a new filter
  4. In the From field, enter your school's email domain (e.g. *@yourschool.sch.uk)
  5. Click Create filter
  6. Tick Forward it to and add your SchoolBrief address
  7. Gmail will send a confirmation email to your SchoolBrief address — we'll automatically forward it to your inbox with a clickable confirmation link
  8. Click the confirmation link in that email to activate forwarding
  9. Click Create filter

📨 Outlook / Hotmail

  1. Open Outlook → click the cog icon (top right) → View all Outlook settings
  2. Go to MailRules
  3. Click Add new rule
  4. Name it "Forward to SchoolBrief"
  5. Set a condition: From → enter your school's email address or domain
  6. Set an action: Forward to → enter your SchoolBrief address
  7. Click Save

Note: Outlook doesn't support wildcard forwarding (like *@school.uk) — you'll need to add the specific sender address, or add a rule per sender.

🍎 Apple Mail / iCloud

  1. Log in to icloud.com → open Mail
  2. Click the cog icon → Rules
  3. Click Add a Rule
  4. Set condition: If a message is from → your school's email
  5. Set action: Forward to → your SchoolBrief address
  6. Click Add Rule

Tip: Not sure what your school's email domain is? Look at a recent email from them — it's whatever comes after the @ sign.

Yahoo Mail: Unfortunately Yahoo's free plan doesn't support auto-forwarding. You can still forward school emails manually to your SchoolBrief address, or contact us and we'll help you find a workaround.

Frequently asked questions

Is my email private?

Yes. We only process forwarded school emails to extract events. Original emails are deleted after 30 days and we never share your data.

What if multiple children go to different schools?

Just forward emails from all their schools to the same address. Everything ends up in one morning digest.

What if an event date is wrong?

AI isn't perfect. If something looks off, always check the original school email. We're working on flagging low-confidence events.

Can this also handle alerts in apps like Class Dojo or Tapestry?

No, these are walled gardens so it's not possible to handle messages from those apps.
